A native of Los Angeles, Justin Henderson spent much of his childhood and young adulthood surfing the California beaches. Great guide! I got a detailed list of sightseeing places to visit, history behind, etc. Just what I needed. Don't get what people are complaining about, especially saying that it's catering to older and richer travelers? If they needed info on hotel and restaurants recommendations ..who gets it from the guide books these days anyways when there's tripadvisor, booking and a gazillion of other websites with up to date reviews and pictures?? I skip right through those sections. For me guidebooks are where I get detailed information on all the places to see and do in the area, and this book covers it all! For everything else, there are travel websites and discussion forums.

As others point out, navigating the book can have its modest challenges. But overall, the information contained herein was very reliable and guided us through an excellent week in Oaxaca. One specific recommendation I would propose for the next edition, is a focus on the cemeteries (yes, the cemeteries) for Dia de Muertos: advice on visiting them by oneself or the various cemetery tours that are available.

We went to Oaxaca for a week and this book was successfully relied on when needed. However, because we already had a booked Air B'n'B where we stayed for the duration and we already had a good idea how we wanted to spend our time, the guide didn't get used as much it might have otherwise. Even so, we referred to it maybe ten times and it never let us down.

Would like more medical info, more festival info. That being said, it is the best book we've found on Oaxaca -- good map of plaza, etc.

Very Informative summary of tourist opportunities in Oaxaca. It was a big help in planning my trip, both in choosing what to see in the City of Oaxaca, and where to go in the mountains. The ecotourism section was very helpful. I cannot speak to its coverage of the coast or the Isthmus because I did not go to those areas.

What a great book this has been in planning my upcoming trip to Oaxaca. I found the day-by-day itinerary for Oaxaca city incredibly helpful in planning my days. Then I filled in the outline with additional sites in each geographic area.

Very useful guide. I recently spent a week in Oaxaca, and this book had great suggestions for sites and restaurantsI lik, both in Oaxaca city and around the state of Oaxaca. I liked how it included more cultural information in the preface and in the individual site descriptions to add nuance and meaning to the places it recommended. Pretty solid maps too.

I love how simple a cookbook is.Looking up recipes online, you always got pages on top of pages of stories and whatever else they feel the need to talk about before you actually get to a recipe. This book is short and sweet and straight to the point. And has some great recipes!

This is a great starter recipe book. My daughter is 5 and we found out she is a type 1 diabetic about a year ago. We are tying to reduce our carb intake and this has helped us along with a keto cookbook.

This is a handy book to have with some great quiche recipes. The measuring units are metric, but it wasn't difficult to convert to imperial system units. I typically only make broccoli-cheese quiche so I'm excited to try some new recipes!

This is a great cookbook. It was nice and easy to read and follow the reciepes. Made my first one today and it tastes great.

Testing tools and methods are introduced at the beginning of the book rather than as an afterthought, which is a refreshing change from many other books. Such an interesting read.. really gives you an insight to the amazing Mexican artisans/artists of this craft/trade, a real look into where/why this originated, and why collectors will pay good money for these beautiful works of art. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the Oaxacan carving/painting art, or Mexican culture.

I just bought the book to look at the pictures and get creative ideas, I had no idea how interesting the commentary would be. I learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of it. Have forwarded the book to my daughter so she can enjoy the insight these authors give to life in the wood carving villages. I would love to read an update, since the book was written in 1993 - wonder if NAFTA had any effect?

My copy of Oaxacan Woodcarving: The Magic in the Trees arrived just before my husband and I left the U.S. for a 3-month RV tour through several states of Mexico. Much of our 4 weeks in Oaxaca were spent in small villages enjoying the colorful works and the artisans who created them. We saw a wide variety of styles and themes, many of which are represented in this book. What gorgeous colors and what a sense of humor!

This book made me want to rush out and get carving tools, and paint. It is an amazing account of a clever people who make art from nature. And they do it so well. Their imaginations are a true inspiration to all artists.. I reread it every couple of weeks.He who hesitates,.........

This review was written after completing 8 out of 9 volumes (the last isn't released yet). The thing about series is that you don't think about buying particular volume if you already like the whole story. This is not the case when the author gets 'burned out' somewhere in the middle and continues writing for whatever reason. No, this story is solid and complete. If you've started it, you'll finish it.

Good book

Just what I expect from Izumi Miyazono-Sensei. Beautiful drawing and witty sorry is her norm. I can't wait to read what our two protagonists getvup to in further volumes! Thank you so much for bringing Sensei's work to the US.

~4/5We find out just how serious Kamiya is about his proposal to Asuka in this volume. And he's more serious than I expected. He's going to more devious levels to get into Asuka's head, and he's rather upfront about his wants, even to Ryu.I do like how stern Asuka is about his advances, but at the same time, I don't think she's being completely honest with Ryu. And I think that Kamiya is messing with her head more than she wants to admit. I don't like it.I do like seeing how firm Ryu is about them, though. He's very insistent about his feelings and his want to be with Asuka. I like seeing that.Near the end of the volume, it drifts to seeing Ryu's work day, and we see just how busy he is and how maturely he handles it. He's got a new guy under him, and I like seeing how Ryu is challenging the guy, and pushing the boundaries. Ryu's good at what he does, and it's obvious.A new volume of this is always good. I really like this book. It's well organized and to the point. It's helpful in making the rules understandable and useful in giving examples and a method to analysis.I only wish there was something like this that would include the CA Code distinctions.Maybe you should write one? ;)

I found this book very helpful for my Evidence final. I used this book throughout the semester when we covered each topic, and it explained the concepts very well. It does not have every single rule of evidence or every hearsay exception. However, I found I was much more prepared for class and the final after reading this book than I would have been just reading the casebook and the rules.

I think some of the checklists numbers are missing. Please see pictures attached - they ask the reader to go to “Step 15”, “Step 16”, or “Step 17” - yet the next page doesn’t include those steps?

Had everything almost word for word in it that was on the test.
