This book is one of two items that I took into the testing facility the day I took my exam. I opted for this first edition even though there are newer editions because 90% of the stuff in newer editions is the same (kind of like Madden Football). No need to pay for newer when the goal is to understand the material. This book delivers. It is clear, concise, and well formatted. One still needs a strong background in either economics, statistics, probability, manufacturing, and/or engineering to be able to easily grasp all the concepts but the basics are laid out very well. The other item that I took into the testing facility on the day of my exam was the CSSGB Primer offered by the Quality Council of Indiana. I used both references equally. Both were equally useful. The CSSGB Primer offered by the Quality Council of Indiana had everything tabbed and labeled and was more useful for the mathematics questions (all of the formulas are better laid out and better explained in the CSSGB Primer). I would strongly recommend both items.I was able to find a used version of The Certified Six Sigma Green Belt Handbook on Amazon for $17 and to my surprise it is in "like new" condition which included a bonus CD in the back cover that contained additional six sigma tools and reference items. As far as the CSSGB Primer from the Quality Council of Indiana...there are folks on Amazon selling a used version for $150+...but you can get a new version directly from the Quality Council of Indiana for $70.

This book was critical in passing the ASQ Exam for the Green Belt. As it is an open book test, this is the book to know to pass the exam. Clearly, there is far more to being a Six Sigma Green Belt than what is in this book, that knowledge is on your own professional curiosity to find, but if the goal is passing the ASQ exam, you need this book. Get to know it well, so you are not fumbling around looking for answers. The test is still challenging even with access to this book.

This book absolutely lives up to its title. The book does not claim to be a one-stop-shop for Six Sigma knowledge, nor does it claim to be a comprehensive reference. What it certainly accomplishes in doing is to present itself as an excellent reference for the ASQ SSGB certification exam. Every topic covered in the BoK is broached upon in this book.Some obscure concepts that ended up in the test like 'takt time' have not been covered, but you could allow a few slip-ups in an otherwise well-organized book. Mind you, there are typos that you could find, but one of the authors is very active on LinkedIn, and maintains a good forum there.If one wants a comprehensive Six Sigma reference, it can be found in either of these texts:1) Implementing Six Sigma by Breyfogle, Forrest W2) The Six Sigma Handbook, Third Edition by Thomas Pyzdek and Paul KellerTo prepare for the ASQ exam, another great source is the material that Indiana Quality Council puts out. This is especially useful in preparing for the ASQ SSBB exam.
