incoherent, no continuity, did not provide any useful information or insights into Zambia volunteer work. Culture and people of the country were secondary to author's own personal concerns.

All in all I enjoyed this book. It did have some very exciting stuff yet was also slow at points.

Mark Burke entered the Volunteer Service Organization (England's version of the US Peace Corps) after a tumultuous breakup with a girlfriend left him feeling skeptical and depressed. "Glimmers of Hope: Memoir of a Volunteer in Zambia" is about Mark's experiences in Zambia from October 2004 through December 2006.Mark starts off with the training he received with the VSO before he went to his assigned school to teach. Mark states he received about 3 days of training whereas his counterparts received about a week. He laments in his memoir that he wished he had learned the local language. He feels he would have better understood the people of Zambia. In contrast, US Peace Corps Volunteers receive three months of language and cultural training before reporting to their assignments.Mark's memoir is a excellent account of his time in Zambia including his frustrations with the culture of corruption and hypocrisy. He details teaching in Zambia, his interactions with the Zambian teachers and other Zambians, the harrowing trips into town for supplies, the encounters with large snakes, along with the experience of being in an African country during an election. Mark does tend to be pessimistic about life in general in his book, but a lot of volunteers do end their service with this attitude.I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it for people who are considering any type of volunteer or missionary work in Africa. Reading this book will give the reader a realistic idea of just what their service in Africa may be like.My only criticism of this book is the lack of formatting. Mark has self published this book so there are formatting issues. Some of these have been addressed in the second edition, however.

100% AUTHENTIC AND A GREAT READ. Mark tells it like it is. I have been the CEO of I AM ONE IN A MILLION NGO in Livingstone, Zambia since 2007. The sad news is: This book could have been written in 2017. Nothing has changed. If you want an honest, accurate history lesson quickly this is the perfect book. It's also entertaining. The author candidly pours his heart out to the reader from the turbulence faced in fast paced London to the everyday struggles of being a teacher/development worker in Africa (Zambia). The description of characters (some more shady than others) is amazing, while his real life depiction of his daily struggles are at times sad (ever-growing struggles of HIV/AIDS and corruption), but gripping. While reading the book, occasionally I felt the author's pain in some of the sad but true problems he faced at his school. Having been a development worker in Tanzania, yet traveled to Zambia I understand the author's struggles and triumphs - most of which I can relate to, thus it's fitting for anyone who has worked or volunteered in Sub-Saharan Africa. Moreover, the internal struggles the author wrestles with are sincere, distressing, and endearing; which makes the book that much more humbling to read. For anyone who enjoys reading about people's adventures, Africa, and life's daily challenges... this is a must read.

I feel cheated. The initial description of the product said everything was included, however when it arrived it wasn't. After I received it I went back to the product information and saw that it was no longer the paragraph I read when I purchased the book, it had changed to just one sentence. There was a handwritten post it note inside the book where the product code should have been saying that the product code and license number had already been used. I will be seeking a full refund when I have time because right now I have to hunt down a product code and license number in order to complete an assignment due soon.

What can I say, the layout of this book is great and easy to understand. The cases are interesting and relevant.

No complaints with the text, minimal amount of markings within the text with very little damage to the actual pages

Words can hardly express how horrible this book truly is. Although used exclusively at Cooley Law School ( because it is written by Cooley's Tort Law professors), even the professors who did not join in writing it spend a significant amount of time complaining about it. This book is riddled with short stories that are nothing more than attempts at legal-fiction authorship while portending to be examples of real-life practice. Another waste of space is devoted to pointless biographies, such as one for the Mayor of Detroit. What has that got to do with learning the law of torts? Your guess is as good as mine. Notwithstanding that Cooley is a fourth-tier law school, the professors who wrote this book hail from other Michigan law schools. Therefore, something should have told them that the book should have been vetted for merit by non-interested third parties, meaning not by Cooley staff and the authors, who are riddled with bias. The only thing good about this book: it's good for a laugh - the materials it was made with are so cheap that the cover fell off of brand new books within a week of actual use. The school is a joke; the book is a joke; what more need be said?

As a 10 year old I found this funny. Every "would you rather " question made me evaluate which answer I would rather choose. Really cool book! The illustrations were goofy but good. The drawings didn't look realistic at all, but they made me laugh anyway and gave me a better sense of what the question was asking me. I really enjoyed the cover photo. I think even that cute doggy liked this book! I encourage kids to do this book with their family and friends. I have a best friend that always plays soccer and not with me very often. But when we do hang out together she prefers to answer tese fun questions . I give a shout out to the author for bringing together such a masterpiece. Great Job!!!!!!!! So don't be hesitant to read this book, 'cause I bet you'll enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoy reading these type of children books, for they always teach my children an important life lesson in a simple and easy way that they can understand. It's important for children today to have morals, and the only way that they will obtain them is if they are taught from a young age.

The front cover is not what is pictured.However, paper quality seems good, it is in color, and the printing seems to be good.The ISBN listed, 978-1-5107-1283-6 is what I received.I would have tasted it 5 stars if the picture in the ad matched what I received.

No, the cover doesn't match the picture on the FAA PDF version, but the contents are dead-on and it's the correct version. I don't really care what the cover looks like.

This book is available free in PDF on FAA website. I chose to purchase a hard copy because the price was reasonable, I could browse through the pages easier, and the Amazon "Look Inside" feature showed color pages exactly like what was on the FAA website. The cover of the book was exactly as shown (although the binding text was upside down). The inside pages are not color, but dull grey-scale: very misleading and deceitful!

If you're an aviator or want to be one, you probably already have this book... A fantastic read, and has pretty much all the answers to the questions on your written (this, and the FAR/AIM) Fun to just pick up and spin the pages and start reading

Very misleading!! I wish I would had read these reviews first. The book is by some publisher I have never heard of. Is is pictured with the cover ASA uses, a reputable aviation publisher pilots know and trust. Yes it is written by the FAA but I feel this is deceitful.
