I had to write thUUUUURP this review to let you know you need it Morty… you need this book to survive!I know this is alUUUUURP a a a lot to take in right now, but I mean it Morty… you gotta use that Amazon Prime account and order this book and when it shows up on your dooUUURRRRstep you need to eat it with your eyes.DO IT MORTY DO IT.

Going to write an honest review as an owner of many art books and an avid fan of Rick and Morty. I love collecting art books because I love learning about all of the work that goes into a show and the entire thought process that went into every detail. I was expecting to see more concept art, more about architecture and set design, more storyboards, and overall just more about the actual production of the show. There is a bit of this but it's concentrated to the last 20-30 pages of the book whereas the first 3/4 is solely finished character designs. Although these do offer little tidbits of information about the art specifically, I was looking for more content in the descriptions of actual development of the show--a real look inside Rick and Morty. Compared to other art books I have (i.e. Disney film art books and Avatar the Last Airbender) this book doesn't compare (I do realize that this show is far more simplistic than the others that I possess art books for, but I would've loved to see all of the terrible drawings that they went through that they just mention that they did in the book).Pros:- Amazing glow-in-the-dark cover- Great coffee-table piece or a gift for a Rick and Morty lover- Offers a lot of interesting tidbits about side characters and their design (so your favorite is most likely going to be there)Cons:- Not as much information as other art books- Finished character designs takes up the bulk of the bookOverall, if you're a huge Rick and Morty fan I definitely recommend getting this book for your collection for the cool cover alone, but if you're an avid art book fan just know that it's not as comprehensive as your typical art book.

You can't find a better way of seeing the concept art and early designs that would soon fully develop into the Rick and Morty show that we know and love. I have yet to finish the book but I love how it explains the thought processes behind the creative staff as they design the weird yet enjoyable characters of the Rick and Morty Universe. If you are a fan of Rick and Morty, this book is definitely a must have. Came in great condition too.

This book is a great gift for any fan of the show. My daughter loves drawing characters and this book gives an inside look into the creative process of inventing this show. It gives drawing tips on the details of the characters and tells the story of how each character evolved. There is plenty of full page art with lots of fun facts, and the last chapter is about the production of.the show. Well worth the price.

Better than expected. At first I was mad, because I thought a the packing tape that was taped to the front of the book tore up the book, and I made a big stink around the house, yelling at everyone. Then printed a return form, and was all ready to send it back, but then realized the book wasn't torn. It was just a sticker on the front of the book. Good as new, well, it was new, I think. At least it looked new...I don't work in a book store so its hard for me to have any basis of comparison or enough experience to tell the difference. However, I do own a lot of books, and this will definitely make a fine addition to my collection. As well as with my collection of decorative teapots!!! Great purchase!

Got this book as a gift for my teenage nephew. It came sealed in plastic wrap, but I removed it so I could flip through the pages myself beforehand lol. I watch this show as well and I thought the book looked super interesting. Now I want one of my own!

It’s that time again! Late winter to early spring is pretty much the best time to prune trees and woody shrubs. I’ve already tackled some overgrown viburnums, but the crazy weather in Chicago prevented me from finishing up the redtwig dogwoods and getting to a very, very sad (i.e., half-dead) honeysuckle.Though I’ve taken a few classes and read MANY books on pruning, I still found a lot of good advice in Pruning Simplified. It briefly covers common pruning techniques and tools, but the bulk of its content focuses on individual plants, specifically over 50 of the most widely used garden plants—from butterfly bush to crab apple, lilac to yews, and the list goes on.Each plant is listed alphabetically by its botanical name and given a two-page write-up that includes a picture, pruning tips, guidelines for when to prune and which tools to use, and step-by-step advice for different pruning “intensities.” It gives just the right amount of information without overwhelming the reader, and the how-to pictures are perfect! Very clear and helpful.There’s also a Special Features section in the back that covers more specific pruning tasks—like hedges, ground covers, conifers, etc.—and a very short spreadsheet that lists ideal pruning times for each plant.I can’t say enough good things about this book. It has been an invaluable guide for me this winter, and I know I will reference it again and again.

If you have a yard that came with trees, vines, shrubs, ground covers, and/or hedges, or if you have planted some of your own, this is a must-have book. When I first moved to my current house, I was clueless on how to manage what was already there and I certainly didn't train and prune those or the new things I planted correctly. Some were small and seemingly growing fine to me(and wow, was I ever mistaken). Had I done proper maintenance pruning, I would have a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing yard, but it is never too late to do remedial pruning and I can now at least do the right thing for any new additions.The Directory of Plants covers over 60 varieties and I now know how to prune my overgrown Forsythia, Rhododendrons, and Hydrangea. Basic techniques and pruning equipment are covered first, then each plant in the directory provides information on formative, routine, and remedial pruning with pictures that show you where to prune the plant based on your objectives. The next section, Special Features, covers trees, hedges, climbers, ground cover, as well as low-maintenance, renovation, and specialized pruning. I really appreciated the 'When to Prune Most Species”' chart since different plants do better when pruned in the correct season.A well written and useful book for anyone who wants to do their own DIY pruning. A hard copy will be a great addition to my gardening/yard care shelf.I received a DRC from Timber Press through NetGalley.

I really wish I had had this book then. We slashed and chopped with no thought other than clearing. We managed to damage and in some cases, kill many beautiful plants and trees.This book gives clear guidance on how, when and to what extent pruning should be done on 50 common trees and shrubs. The information is presented in such a manner that anyone can easily find and follow the guidance for their yards. In the last few years, we have been planting. Now I have the knowledge to protect our investment and make our home beautiful! Read this book BEFORE and you will not be sorry AFTER!

Fabulous and informative book that is easy to read and follow. There is an explanation on why to prune followed with tools and equipment to use. There is a larger list of plants each with plant detail followed with good drawing of where to prune for best results.At the end there is a section of special pruning of trees, standards, shaping, hedges, conifers and climbers and ground covers.I found this book extremely helpful with the diagrams and the explanation on why we prune. I do a lot of pruning in my garden because of the nature of the plants, and this is one of the easiest and most informative books I have come across.

Jam-packed with lots of information as to why to prune, how to go about it, and, finally, types of pruning that might be more applicable to your plant situation (along with a nifty summarization graph at the end).Diagrams help the reader to see what exactly the author is trying to convey, and, even being exceptionally green behind the ears on terms of pruning, I feel that this book gives me enough information to get me going without a tremendous fear of accidentally killing what I’m trying to help out.Many thanks to NetGalley and Timber Press for the advance read.

While this book doesn't cover every plant or tree in my yard, I did learn what I've been doing wrong with a few of them! This book covers 50 common plants and trees and includes information on formative pruning, routine pruning and remedial pruning for each. There is also a useful table listing when to prune various species, plants requiring little or no pruning and hedging plants. It discusses what tool to use for what purpose, and has an extensive list of specific plants and how best to prune them. I know this is a resource I will consult regularly, because I always have something that needs pruning?

It's riveting, the best book I've found about Jesus and New Testament because by building the story historical detail by detail, you are there, you actually feel like a contemporary experiencing the phenomena of Jesus as it occurs and as he makes you think differently about God and his kingdom.Yes, there is a great deal of argumentation back and forth, which sometimes seems like scholars missing the forest for the trees. But, the arguments are very much like watching the TV show Law and Order; they make you realize how demanding, fascinating and frustrating it is to prove something beyond a reasonable doubt.Their fascinating, detailed observations and well chosen historical facts make a very convincing case for the authenticity of each of the twelve experiences that the author and scholars examine.But my great Christmas present from Darrell L Bock is his examination of the resurrection. He does not shy away from where the facts lead, which is to look the testimonies, facts, surrounding events, and historical record straight in the eye and see what the followers saw....an empty tomb and Jesus resurrected.I have read many books on the bible, and this is far and away the best.For instance CAN WE TRUST THE NEW TESTAMENT by John A.T. Robinson, is very good, but the author gets very coy at the end about whether the resurrection is a real historical event or some sort of test of faith requiring the blessed to believe three impossible things before breakfast. I was disappointed.MISQUOTING JESUS by Bart D. Ehrman is worth reading to learn about how scholars study the Bible. He begins by believing the bible to be the inerrant word of God and ends up believing it to be the errant word of a bunch of good hearted Jewish fellows. He seemed a bit of a fanatic about everything to the point of boredom.To me this book is WONDERFUL. Almost in spite of the various churches I have attended, something in me kept saying, you know there wouldn't be all this fuss about some preacher if something really extraordinary hadn't happened. But so often I felt like the only fool who really believed.And these days, when even to confess to a passing familiarity with Christianity makes people suspect your sanity, I went underground about it all, but kept on reading and learning.THIS BOOK IS GREAT. READ IT IF YOU DARE!!!

If so, you should consider reading, Who is Jesus?Darrell Bock’s book is the result of a decade of meetings and dialogue with fifteen Jesus scholars who take the Bible seriously, but came together to examine the historical evidence regarding Jesus. Much of the evidence examined came from ancient sources outside the Bible. For example, was there really a Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified under Pontius Pilate? Not only is the biblical evidence presented, but other ancient sources as well. Authors such as Josephus, the Roman historian Tacitus, and archeological evidence (graffiti discovered on a stone outside Rome in 1857) are all presented to corroborate biblical claims.This book should prove useful to all who wish to investigate the historical evidence for the Christian faith, as well as those who already believe but wish to gain a firmer grasp on the foundations of their faith (fides quaerens intellectum). However, the biggest contribution of this book may not be in presenting the historical evidence for Jesus, but rather in the fleshing out the implications of those historical events.

An engaging look at the real Jesus. Amazingly, the Gospels prove to be a pretty accurate telling of the historical life of Jesus.

Good decision to buy

Perhaps you have heard about the search for the "historical Jesus." While for about 50 years I have believed that the Jesus of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John is the historical Jesus, apparently many view Him quite differently.This book helped me to understand the search for the "historical Jesus" better than I had before and I think many serious students of the gospels will find it very interesting, stimulating and challenging.One of my favorite ideas from the book is in regard to "embarrassment". So, for example, when you read something in the Bible that reflects poorly on the disciples or the church you can say, "Aha, this is more evidence for the truthfulness of this book." There are many examples of these "embarrassing moments" in the gospels. For example, why would the disciples argue about who was the greatest? Did they not know that only one was good and great? How embarrassing! It is in the records because it happened and Jesus used their squabble to teach about true greatness through humility and service (Mark 9.33-37).I believe that the Bible is a gift from God and nothing in this book detracts from that idea. If He arose (and He did, chapter 13), then His words are trustworthy!John 14.26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (NIV)John 16.13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (NIV)I appreciate Dr. Bock's excellent book!
