I asked another another friend for lessons, and got a Hal Leonard book.By week 3, I had jumped WAY ahead of myself and was trying to read about modes, asking why the harmony in 30's country was a given interval apart, whether you play a major or minor scale with the blues, and getting answers that I was unable to understand. I was very frustrated.After all, I still had never heard of pentatonic patterns, intervals, flat vs major 7ths... and when I did hear about something like a "perfect fifth", my brain would get stuck in why it's called a fifth, and what makes it perfect. (I found myself trying to read about Pythagoras late one night...)My wife found these podcasts and they were everything I needed: - A fundamental approach to the Theory of music, rather than a sheet of chords - Well paced - An Intellectually curious approach - Accurate and solid and deep - Serna tells what he's going to demonstrate, demonstrates it succinctly, then reviews what he just demonstrated - I know most of the songs he references well2 weeks in, I've purchased both Fretboard Theory books, one in paper and one on Kindle. I'm on podcast 12. And I'm boring everyone at parties telling them excitedly about all the magical things I've learned.Every day now I play my lovely bass and my new semi hollow body and my acoustic. But I can hardly hear the wonderful new sounds I'm making, for all the clicking in my head as everything falls into place.I've been a teacher all my life, so I can see appreciate Desi Serna's gifts as a teacher. Praise and thanks for this amazing guidebook into music theory.I just wish I lived in Nashville so I could come take lessons.

Bought this along with volume 1 (kindle versions). There are some typographical errors having to do with how only notes should be in uppercase bold typeface, but they are easy to read around. The same issue exists in volume 1, but no stars lost because the content is great.Compared with the first book, this one gave me a lot more work do to, but I was already familiar with some scale patterns . positions, chord shapes, and the most basic of theory concepts. This is the book that finally convinced me to get a looper pedal so that I can play over my own chord progressions to explore musicality of the guitar. I'm a long time player, but mostly approached the guitar as a technical challenge and lack a lot of theory concepts.Bottom line: Tons of value at the kindle price. I feel like I stole from the author, there is so much value here for me. Definitely recommend this and volume 2, only regret is that I didn't buy them sooner.

The Fretboard Theory Series, i.e. Vol I & Vol II along with all the DVDs that cover the chapters taught in these books have been for me the best instruction I've ever used for advancing in my guitar playing. Everything is presented in a way that makes it simple and easy to understand what seemed before to be so complicated. On the DVDs Desi is a great teacher and presenter and just working thru everything from the beginning (a couple of times) makes it much easier to get the technical ability in your fingers too. I highly recommend all of these materials for anyone who plays guitar but is plateaued and needs a kick-in-the-butt into a whole new level of understanding how it all works and ability to actually play it.

First I want to mention that I don't write reviews, however Fretboard Theory I and II are such quality learning materials and the BEST for learning the guitar and music theory for the guitar that I had to write this. I should mention that these books are "geared" towards the intermediate guitarist and Desi makes no secret about that. But there is good news, he has another book for beginners. That being said, here are some points I like to address:1. Modes - This is one of the most confusing and should I misunderstood things regarding this topic. I have other books and also videos from other publishers, however it is still "mystifying" to me. After going through Desi's explanation in Fretboard Theory I, I FULLY understand what modes are and how to apply them in a real musical setting. If you want to understand modes, do yourself a favor and buy his material!2. Connecting the Theory to songs - When reading and learning the material, he gives a list on songs which apply the material taught.3. Lead Patterns and Riff boxes - Explained in Fretboard Theory II, he explains and details application of the Pentatonic Patterns into lead patterns which many players used. In addition, he explains the concept of Riff Boxes. For the lead guitarist, this chapter is a MUST!I have spent YEARS studying theory and spent thousands of dollars on learning material. I wish I came across this earlier I would have save ALOT of time and money. As a developing guitarist, in my opinion, this is all you need!Lastly he has videos for fretboard theory I and II and have them both and recommend as well.

I started four years ago to improve my guitar playing. I started playing at about ten with my dad teaching me. He played country music very well but didn't read notation, more of put your finger here and do this. I am now 62 and enjoying learning all the things I passed over all these years. I especially wanted to learn music theory and one Tuesday night on Ustream with Steve Krenz live lessons I saw Desi Serna and Steve posted links to Desi's web site. I started with book one and now I'm on book two with the DVD's and all I can say is WOW, Desi makes it all so simple and the DVD's are great. I have a lot of practicing to do but I can say I now have a firm grasp of music theory thanks to Desi's teaching. Thanks Mr Serna for taking the time and effort to produce these wonderful teaching tools.

Musgrove uses the alphabet book concept to showcase 26 traditional African cultures. For each one, she explains a custom about that culture in one paragraph. Each entry emphasize the variety in the cultures she has chosen. There is no particular rhythm to the prose, she does not use rhyme or repetition, and for that reason it is not an exciting book to read aloud.For each culture represented, the Dillons illustrated a detailed, realistic family or community scene. Each scene is framed with the same knot design, and each contains a male, female, and child of that particular people, as well a depiction of their home and fauna native to their part of Africa. Despite this planned similarity, each scene is unique. The Dillons depict each tribe with varying skin tones and facial features, use a wide variety of colors and patterns and apparently did extensive research to make each scene accurate. Though they have attempted to be realistic, their style is also traditional, reminiscent of a fairy tale book, with soft lines, gentle shading and muted colors. In addition, the perspective is somewhat stylized, adding a folk art feel. Their illustrations combine well with Musgrove's writing, as they both work together to bring out the beauty and mystique of a culture foreign to most readers.It is intended for the standard picture book age*, and may not be appropriate. Preschoolers may not be mature enough to understand or be interested in other cultures yet, though these illustrations could be enticing enough to make them want the book read aloud. Many of the terms will be too advanced for early readers, making this one that will need to be read with an adult for the majority of those in the intended age range.*note: I have since found out that Amazon has this rated for the wrong age group; according to the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database it is intended for grades 4-5.

Excellent work. Well written with beautiful illustrations! It uses the alphabet to work the story through a series of African tribes. It starts with "A" for Ashanti civilization and works its way through multiple groups of African people until it reaches "Z" for Zulu.The pictures are thought-provoking and have led to many discussions regarding different types of dress and why people dress differently for weddings and everyday clothing.I wish someone would produce a film to accompany the book so we could see the people in action. It would also be wonderful if the author would remake the book for an older crowd. Same concept but with more information or at least links to more information about each group. Because, this book is really appropriate for the 5-8 aged group of children. Each page contains only about a paragraph of information.

Educationally this is a well written book with beautiful colors and illustrations. As a mother, I am learning about tribes of people in our mother land with this great book! I appreciate the pronunciation help given for each African word introduced.I think every family- regardless of color should own this book and have a great understanding of the vastness of the countries and tribes of Africa.My only recommendation is to get the hard cover copy of the book. I ordered paperback, but I first discovered it at the library in hard copy and I wish I ordered it in the hard cover option.Enjoy!

This purchase was absolutely one of the worst choices made through AMAZON. To describe this experience would be exhausting,adjectives and no other parts of speech are all I can think of .After weeks of DELAYS, DELAYS, DELAYS then complete DISAPPOINTMENT. The images in this copy lack color and luster that is essential to a successful children's picture book not to mention the storyteller. The illustrations are reproductions of art, for goodness sake. If this is the definition of LIBRARY EDITION, DON'T SELL this edition. This item is the worst copy of this edition, I have every seen.

Each African tribe featured in this classic picture book is shown with a native creature, local handicraft, man woman and child, dwelling, and textile. So much to see and love on every page.

Beautiful traditions and images from Africa all set to the letters of the alphabet. There is also an excellent map on the last page of the book showing where all the various ethnic groups mentioned in the book are from on the continent. The book also showcases the diversity of the African continent.

Having an inquiring mind, I purchased this volume as source material for wide ranging research I conduct into all things metaphysical.I have to say, I found it pithy and thought-provoking. Some may view this a journey into the sacred science of the magi...others, a journey of self reflection. Whatever your view, anything that helps us break away from the senses-numbed mindset of the world is good in my book.Stop and think. Look inside and see yourself as you truly are. To "Know" yourself, is the beginning of enlightenment.Try it...I think you'll be amazed. :)

Typos, too basic for my taste and I personally wouldn't really buy it reading what I've read now. It's only 23 small pages which I was surprised, but what really disappointed me was the typos and lack of diversity in grammar and word usage. It's literally about as basic as you could get, possibly for a middle school level learning. I would have preferred a bit more for this book for the price paid for it... or around $4-$5 total. That's just my opinion.

Short and to the point! This is a great read to help motivate one on the path to becoming the greatest version of themselves. One aspect I loved about this book is the fact that if even if you weren't familiar or perhaps are at the point where you were a touch uncomfortable with Luciferian philosophy, the contents in this book still hold true for all. From this it shows that Luciferian philosophy is for all who seek to be their best selves. Those who seek illumination and to be the cause of their life and not the effect of the external. If your curious about The Luciferian way of life this is a phenomenal book to get you started... Fiat Lix (Let There Be Light!)

This 'book' has good intentions, but could honestly fit on a few pages if it weren't in huge font with huge margins and spaces in between paragraphs. Littered with spelling and grammatical errors. The author only provides quotes and references from himself. Unless you're an utter novice to the idea of believing in yourself and acting upon those beliefs, skip it.

Great introduction into the philosophy of the Luciferian Order.Highly recommended for anyone who is ready to pull back the curtain of fear and seek the light.However, a few typos caused me to give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

For those who are open to the message this is a fantastic book. An exposition on the process and experience of Self realization.

Makes me understand a higher self is and can be attained. But the writer never revealed the formula for its attainment. The book has been well written.

This is one of those books that when you pick it up you can't put it down. It is very informative and to the point. Which made it easy for me to focus. I think this would be helpful for Luciferians and non Luciferians alike.

Bought this for my son. Mounted it on a sheet of plywood which I covered with cork. He now uses it to put pins up to show where he's been and where he wants to go next. The price was right and if you have some cork and plywood lying around it is much cheaper than the pre-mounted ones. Nice thing about the lamination is that a pin prick doesn't tear the map up, even if you pull the pin and put it in next to the previous location.

My mother, a former teacher who is now in assisted living and suffering from dementia, asked for a wall map. This was the perfect choice. It's laminated so she can make "X's" on it with her erasable markers. She loved geography, and we think it helps her keep her brain firing.

Good quality and looks nice on the wall..but font is so tiny that you need a magnifying glass to read. This is a bit challanging for the my son and even for me. Definitely need improvement in that regard. Otherwise is very colorful and high quality.
