This book I expect will remain a university reference rather than alerting the public to privacy issues online. The public don't want to read paragraphs from seventeen to twenty-nine lines long, which I met during the early pages. I would also have made the introduction more packed with salutary facts than discussion. For that reason I am dropping a star, but the author has clearly engaged in a great deal of reference and careful writing.The first section looks at the early rise of people giving and losing their hold on personal details on the early internet, on chatrooms (issues then raised during a murder trial for instance) or beginning the selfie craze. Options were suggested by the W3 so that users could set privacy preferences on their computer.The next section, firmly within the twenty-first century, points out that in 2009 the author met people working in online reputation management. Already the parents of the rich college age people were paying to have their online identities scrubbed of anything that might reduce their chances of college admission or hiring. (Some people today still haven't caught on and plaster drinking photos all over Facebook and then wonder why they don't get hired.) Search engines were also turning up issues that troubled potential political candidates, and scrubbing them would not be easy. ORM is now a well-funded industry.New terms use old words to help us understand them quickly. Like digital footprint, digital doppelganger, Google handshake, burying negative content under positive content. We also learn something of SEO and how Google reduces visibility of anyone trying to game the system with false external links. Shortly after that I found another 29 line paragraph and my eyes just glazed over, I'm afraid. Maybe a graph would have helped. I would have broken the paragraph halfway, between Laura Portwood-Stacer's remarks and Patrick Ambron's counter argument.The author goes on to refer to Safiya Umoja Noble's work, which I've previously read, on the images and impressions given of African-American women online in search results. I recommend her book - 'Algorithms of Oppression', title not in the text.After that we are encouraged to build our own images on line, with again mixes of new and old terms; virtual store-front, digital hygiene. Another 29 line paragraph. A business handbook would have put the whole chapter into a bulleted list, three graphs and a cartoon. Different approaches for different folks.A main point the author makes is that creepy and unpleasant, maybe unethical, habits like scanning entire mails and headers and photos by corporate giants, even those items we just store, not share, is happening and is so ubiquitous now, that we think there is nothing to be done about it.Later she gets on to Big Data, by means of which the giants 'monetise' the actions of browsers, customers or not. Well, in this house, my husband Googled something for the first time and within the hour it was offered to him by Amazon. Proof that the giants sell data, if not necessarily to one another then to data brokers who warehouse the material and sell it on fast. Data brokers, another new - old term. However, I didn't see supermarkets pushing pregnancy goods at women who didn't know yet that they were expecting, mentioned here. A lot of the details which I have read in books such as 'The Black Box Society' by Frank Pasquale weren't presented. The author does reference that book, so maybe she didn't want to repeat it, but I think that concrete examples like Target and the expectant teen mother should have been used instead of mostly abstract discussion about the general concept. Examples prove the point and stick in the mind.As well as social theorists and reputation managers, I am pleased that the author spoke to computer professionals, such as an app developer. Self-tracking is one such bribe the firms offer. I appreciate the author's point that even if firms were obliged to compensate people for their data, they would only be interested in compensating people likely to spend the most.Not included (that I saw): ad blockers, cookie cleaners and malware cleaners, all of which I use; VPNs and Tor; the certainty that people accessing free adult sites and pirate sites are downloading keyloggers at once. Whatever about ads containing malware on your webpage, you don't want to let the bad guys put malware on your computer and steal your credit card details. Nor the Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which Facebook was selling personal data to firms that were using bots to influence votes around the world for money; and while the book may have been prepared before that was exposed, it does put the concepts into proportion. As does the EU's new GDPR. And China's social media monitoring to rate citizens' good standing for social privileges. That's the trouble with writing about the infosector; it moves so fast.Notes P227 - 272 in my e-ARC. I counted 122 names which I could be sure were female. I saw no charts or illustrations but there may be some in the final text.The author is Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of New Hampshire. This book will chiefly be of interest to scholars, sociologists and those working up new theories about our computer age.I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley. This is an unbiased review.

A good book even if you have no desire to compete on a championship level, but just want to improve what you barbeque, grill, and smoke for your family, friends, and neighbors

If you are new to BBQ smoking in my opinion there is no one book you can buy. Everyone that writes one has a point of view. What I have found is you really need a core of three books I have found helpful and then possibly two more. Also there is a lot on the web, but there is one site I have found particularly helpful.I have tried smoking before with bullet grills with some success, but it takes a lot of minding. I finally broke down and bought the Texas Traeger pellet grill just for smoking. I love it. Now the problem is most cookbooks on smoking do not address this type of smoker head on so if you want to lean how to really use one I have found you need to look at a variety of sources.Paul Kirk's cookbook makes my type five.Once you understand temperature in relation to smoke and timing you can translate any indirect recipe to a pellet grill or any other type of smoker. There are some tricks/tips that will enhance the cooking, but in the end it all comes down to temperature and time.Here are the books that I have found most helpful in descending order. I would invest in all five if you are serious about this. I look at two things; technical information and recipes.Slow Fire by Ray "DR. BBQ" Lampe - Excellent from a technical standpoint. A great foundation in terms of understanding smoking (slow cooking) and good basic recipes. It is the first book I would buy.Backyard BBQ The Art of Smokology by Richard W. McPeake - Great in terms of technical. If you study this book along with Lemke's you will really get a handle on the technical aspects of smoking. The recipes are pretty basic, but that is OK if you are new at this.Smoke & Spice by Cheryl Alters Jamison and Bill Jamison - OK technical, but once you have that down good recipes and good guidance on time and temperature,Championship Barbecue by Paul Kirk - Good technical compliment to the first two above. This however is more a smoke and grilling cookbook as more than half the recipes are grilled ones. He also has a habit of trying to replicate indoor recipes to the grill. I have no idea why you would do that. A lot of the recipes seem like let me throw this against the wall and see what sticks. That said he has some good smoked ones and his mustard slaughters really work, Thought everything using them would taste like a hot dog, but they enhance the flavor with no mustard taste. Obviously I am a little conflicted by this book.BBQ USA by Steven Raichlen _ more of a grilling cookbook, but he has some good smoker recipes. I am a fan of his for grilling; I have five of his cookbooks. Again from a smoking perspective this is the last of the five, but it and his others are great if you grill as well.Last do poke around the website amazingribs.com. It is not just about ribs and has a wealth of information.Do not assume that any of these recipes will be spot on in terms of your particular grill. As all the authors say you have to learn your grill so do not try any recipe for the first time for company. As many of the authors say smoked BBQ will be ready when it is done.Again it is all about learning about time and temperature for your particular grill.

Holy. Fricken. Cow.I think this book is better for the intermediate bbq cook who's got a few smokin' hours under their belt. I love the recipes to make your own pantry staples! I love the complexity and diversity of the recipes. I love that he covers rubs, slathers, marinades, brines, pastes and injections. This book has it all.That's the reason I think it's a better choice for some one with a little seasoning (sorry, couldn't help it). It may be so much information that a person could get info-overload and not be able to make a choice.The directions are clear to me in the recipes. I haven't had any trouble with any recipe I have tried so far.There is a wide range of taste and styles represented here. So be brave and try and new recipe for Pete's sake!If I were to ding this book at all, it would be that some of the recipes for the staples and rubs are too large in volume. So read it, think for a second and divide it by 2 or 3, or not. You are the pit master here, my friend.

This book just about has everything you could ever dream of in order to learn how to make killer bar-b-que. I recently made my mother 2 slabs of ribs for Mother's Day based on a recipe from in here and she and all at the table loved them! I've learned the basics such as how to set up a grill for smoking or for direct-heat grilling, how long to cook meat for, what kind of wood to smoke with, what kind of baste to make and how often to use it, what to use as a marinade or as a rub. He literally has thousands of combinations. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning from this book. Paul Kirk is a good communicator, too. If all you know how to bbq is hamburgers and hot dogs but you would like to embark on a delicious bbq adventure, then this is certainly a great resource to have.

This is not a book for somebody just getting started at barbecue.However, for intermediate-level smokers, it's brilliant.This book won't teach you the very basics. It won't give you a lot of step-by-step instructions from beginning to end. What it gives you instead is hundreds of pieces to experiment with. Instead of a handful of full recipes combining rub, mop, and sauce to create one specific meal, it gives you dozens of rubs, mops, slathers, and sauces to combine and make your own.Don't start with this book. But once you've figured out how to make a good brisket or pulled pork, this book can help you make great ones.

Absolutely the most informative, accurate, step-by-step, BBQ book to date. I wore out the paperback, so I purchased the hardcover. This book launched my ribs to the next level. No amount of YouTube can cover what you'll gain from this book. It speaks to the large BBQ rig owner, a rarity nowadays. Well written and a tribute to Paul Kirk's BBQ career. I cook on a Lang 84 Deluxe and a custom, deep pit Santa Maria rig. This book is applicable to both types of BBQ.

I am just beginning to slow cook barbeque. I found this book to be very helpful.A lot of what he talks about is for barbequing in competitions. It is very easy to draw a straight line back to your patio. The front section is very informative and entertaining. Paul Kirk's ego is something to behold.I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes next year. It is November in the Northeast and probably won't be firing up the smoker to next spring. At least with this book I can get a game plan of things to try. It is loaded with tons of recipes including many different rubs, mobs and sops.

Paul is an unusual pitmaster, adding a chef status to barbecue. The recipes are very exiting, combining world flavors. Tons of rubs, sauces and slathers, you will never run out of recipes to try in years. This is truly an encyclopedia of barbecue knowledge. This is on of my top 3 barbecue books. This book is part of my trilogy.

So we started our 8 yo in therapy .. the acting out, the drama... then I found this book. It was us, the whole time. We made him a brat. The minute we changed us ( after a warning to the kids that things were about to change drastically) within 2 weeks the tantrums cut in half. We are only a few weeks in but it has changed our family so far quite a bit. You try to do the best you can and still mess up. This is our way of apologizing to our kids for making them monsters. They are definitely happier! ( which in turn makes us happier)

This book is an excellent explanation of the entitled generation but gives you the tools to turn this type of child into a capable, respectful and naturally grateful individual to give back to society. Each chapter gives an entitled example of a child, a description of a tool to use (and their are plenty and they are called the un-entitles) and how to put it into use. From the whiny four year old who has to have something every time he goes to grocery store to the teenager who announces life's not fair because she is the only one not going to the party, this book easy format guides you with confidence.

I really like this is so easy to read and understand, it gives examples of behavior ans makes me realize what I can do to head off some of the behavior that I just began to see develop in my 4 year old grandson, who lives with us and his mom.

In my quest to give our daughter the opportunities, things, and experiences that I didn't have growing up, I realized that my daughter seemed to lack gratitude for all that she has. This book is great for helping to develop and attitude of gratitude in your kids, rather than entitlement. I love Amy's parenting advice and clear, easy to understand style.

This book brings up some very good points that we are able to incorporate. However there are some we disagree with but then that is life. Overall, we're happy with our purchase of this book.

Exceptionally helpful, clear, practical advice and tools (with the underlying theory presented as well). Every parent who isn't a great parent "naturally" (or doesn't have some other parenting guide that works for them) should get this book. Her classes are wonderful as well. Positive Parenting Solutions. I highly recommend this.

Great book, really useful information, although the parenting tools in this book are mostly the same as Amy McCready's other book, If I Have to Tell You One More Time...: The Revolutionary Program That Gets Your Kids To Listen Without Nagging, Remindi ng, or Yelling, just presented in a different order and context with a few additional tools as well. The author writes very clearly with lots of real life examples.

This book is another gem full of info from Amy--I really like that it has logical straight forward ways to handle some of the toughest situations parents face with children. I've read many parenting books, and this is one that doesn't have a view point to sell or an ideology to convert to. You can use the things in this books in a way that matches your family's ideas and lifestyle.

I purchased this as a required textbook for a Strategic Marketing course. In that regards it's perfect in that I have assigned readings from it, each week. It is not at all inspiring, dry in places, and some of the examples could be updated. For instance, their example regarding Apple is a great description of the company's brand associations and positioning of 10 years ago (the book still refers to them as Apple Computer) and makes no mention of any of the brand development that firm has undergone since. That said, it get's the concepts across, but I think if it hadn't been written a as a college textbook (in accocordance with a textbook publisher's business model) the information could have been transferred more effectively and inspiringly - in probably half to two thirds of the pages. I think the idea is if it weighs more, it must be worth more.As I said, it does the job. The writing is easy to understand. I'm learning things from it. I will not be keeping it past the end of semester.Through Amazon, I purchased it for half the price it was selling for at the University Co-op.

I ordered this Ebook so I would be able to start my course ASAP and have now sat here for hours trying to figure out a way I can access the book to read since it apparently can't be read on Kindle Cloud reader for MAC or my personal kindle. What is the point in buying a "kindle" book if it goes to waste

This was required reading for me. I found this book to be dry much of the time, though loaded with interesting facts. What bothered me the. Out we're the amount of typos found within the text. It's a nit picky thing, but it bugged me nonetheless.

The one marketing book that I wish I would've bought instead of renting. It had such great material in it that I would honestly probably read some of it on my own just because. There's great cases within the book to show actual examples and makes things very easy to understand!

Book for school.

This textbook worked very well for class. There were no pages missing and it helped me to a good grade. I recommend this textbook to anyone taking this course, or just looking to learn more.

I hoped that this book would provide a better insight into the operations of the current west wing. Actually was a tale of a former participant defending his point of view and giving little understanding of who directed him and why he was such a staunch defender of 45.

Sean Spicer reveals the exhilaration and the stress of working in the nation's First Residence. As the first communications director and press secretary for the Trump administration, Spicer reveals how hard it is to sort the truth from the "facts" covered by major media outlets today. Spicer went out of his way to say nice things about his chosen career field, but the reader will learn he's inflating the validity and credibility of what passes for journalism today.Spicer, who comes from a modest New England background, is a normal American. He is amazed and humbled by the privilege of working in the White House for the President of the United States. Doing so cost him and his family personally. I admired Spicer when I saw him conduct media briefings on television, and I admire him even more after learning more about the person. The book is very readable, informative, and enlightening. Those who despise our President could stand a dose about our 45th President. We are privileged to have Americans like Spicer and Trump serve our nation with the real American values they represent.

Spicer writes about his journey to the White House and what he encountered as press secretary. Turned out the journalists followed a long history of how a press conference can and should be managed. Spicer introduced Skype seats for journalists outside of the beltway. He wanted to include those beyond mainstream media. Are reporters there to make themselves the story; to be recognized by the public? The job of he press secretary is to communicate the thoughts and views of the President. Does a spirit of malice undermine accurate exchange of information? A press conference should not become a media event, in and of itself. Good luck Sarah Sanders.

I LOVED this book! Especially the personal picture of Sean Spicer as a person of faith, how that influenced how he conducted himself and how that faith and values were tested in the political world. I have much more admiration for him after reading the book. Cudos to him for knowing when to step out of the bright lights with his dignity and faith intact. I found the book fascinating and highly recommend it!

Well written and entertaining. Nice to read something positive about the President yet honest and fair. Spicer's ethics and integrity come through and he sounds like someone you'd enjoy at a social function as well. He did not deserve the cruel mockery he received by media and SNL...HIS intelligence and morals could run circles around MOST. GREAT political junkie gift for Christmas and those who are disgusted with today's "journalism."

Probably, but legitimacy bias. That being said, well written and documented. Sean makes several strong points on the media/reporting today. I don't think it is all "fake news". In my opinion, the administration brings much of it on itself. Still, where is honest unbiased reporting?

And that will delight some and anger others.Hey, I'm a college professor/administrator, and he takes shots at me and my ilk! And I love it! On page 119, he says: "If there's a bigger contributor to left-wing elitist brainwashing than colleges and universities, I'd like to see it. There's an old saying, 'A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.' Which means a lot of knowledge must be a really dangerous thing." On the next page, he notes one of the horrors of college (page 120): "The more you know, the sadder you get."As he points out at the outset (page vii), "Well, like a lot of other dictators, there is one man's opinion I value above all others. Mine."His segment on families is outrageous--and funny. He begins by noting that "I'm against children" (page 10). Then, he goes on to lay out a number of laws/tips regarding child raising, among which are items that parents will chuckle over.What about the elderly? No sacred cow here. He notes that (page 23) "After criminals and babies, seniors are the most coddled segment of the population."On religion and religious freedom (page 48): "Since the Pilgrims were victims of persecution, some assume they were tolerant. This book arrived fast and I was finished reading by the time the clock struck 1. I literally could not put this book down to eat. The binding on this book is beautiful, with a shiny velvet-red finish on the page-ends and a ribbon emblazoned with * First Edition * to mark your progress through this wonder of a book. The outside bindings are a beautiful red-white-and-blue themed menagerie and the heel of the book is engraved in bold lettering. The book throughout is filled with wonderful illustrations and images that fit the theme and style of the book and give it an overall cohesiveness that is shocking well built for a comedy book. However, Stephen Colbert has been constantly surprising us with his know-how and insight since his early career on the Daily Show. I am completely satisfied with this book, the shipping, and the content itself. Stephen Colbert has churned out another masterful book from his wonderful comedic mind and the word is a funnier, better, more politically informed place for it. Four Stars.

This will be my second read through of this book. I loved it, it was a fun read. Everyone should read it, since it automatically makes you 25% more patriotic just by opening it. I, sadly, lost my original copy while fleeing my manchild of a boyfriend's house. I must have abandoned many beloved tomes in my haste to no longer serve as my partner's surrogate mother, as I keep discovering books that I was certain I own, yet are nowhere to be found on my shelves. I chose the seller mostly at random, and boy, was I happy with the results! The shipping was faster than expected, the book itself is in excellent condition, and is a First Edition, and so is arguably better than the copy I'm replacing. It's all fancy with it's built in bookmark ribbon and stuff. I'm very happy with the purchase, freaking tickled, in fact. So if anyone runs into my ex boyfriend, tell his childish ass to have fun with his two boring, normal copies of I Am America And So Can You, while I enjoy my super awesome first edition!

Udi Nussinovitch, MD, PhD has mainly dedicated his research to cardiac autoimmunity and autoinflammation, cardiac manifestations of systemic diseases, cell- and gene-based cardiac therapies, and the modulation of the cardiac electrophysiologic substrate for therapeutic purposes. He has published articles in leading rheumatologic and cardiovascular journals. He has also published several chapters in scientific textbooks, mostly dealing with cardiac autoimmunity. Dr Nussinovitch has been the recipient of several awards and serves as a reviewer for prestigious rheumatologic and cardiac journals. Dr Nussinovitch carries out his clinical work at the Rambam Healthcare Campus, a tertiary medical facility and leading referral center in northern Israel, academically affiliated to the Technion Institute of Technology, Israel.
